Where did he hit traffic? Route 8 from Torrington to Waterbury is always a breeze, and going to New Haven one would get off the exit in Seymour. Route 8 south of Waterbury gets backed up in the Derby/Shelton area but between Waterbury and Seymour, it's usually not a problem.

Mapquest says 1 hr 2 minutes, and they generally overestimate.

Mapquest bases their estimated driving time on going 55mph on the interstate and 35 or 45 (I can't remember) on state roads. For side roads I think it's 30. So coming from Torrington it estimates a driver traveling 45 along Route 8, and 35 on Route 67 and 63.

And we all know how people in CT drive (70+ in a 55) - hey, we're all guilty of it. lol...

Naugatuck is Connecticut's hidden treasure. It has a picturesque downtown with neighborhoods that are reasonably priced and that you will feel safe about letting the kids roam the neighborhood playing with other children on the street. It's located in New Haven county, just south of the city of Waterbury. About a 20 minute commute to New Haven.
Naugatuck's school system was featured as one of the best in the state in 2009 and unlike other CT towns with excellent school systems, the cost of living is completely affordable! I live in Massachusetts but if I ever was to move down to Connecticut, I would move to Naugatuck, hands down! Its not one of those ritzy NYC suburbs like those CT towns in Fairfield county, but it has an unmistakable small-town New England charm. Take a drive through and tell me what you think! Its worth looking into. Do a little more exploring in Naugatuck, spend a day looking around and I think you'll like what you find! If your looking for that classic American home in a classic American town, this is it! Hope this helps.

Hi! Can you link this article? Curious because Naugatuck has never been known for their schools and their test scores are pitiful. It would be very nice to know this has changed!

I don't think it has changed too much.
