I'm not surprised, Stamford Borders Greenwich, New Canaan & Darien. If it didn't it would rank with the others.
Yeah, I've been to all three cities. They do, unfortunately, pale in comparison to Stamford. I love New Haven though--tons of great restaurants, bars, and fun stuff to do.
Hartford needs to clean up bigtime. I hope they can turn their city around, especially it being the capital of CT and all.

They all have their saving graces & with a bit of TLC could be great.
Bridgeport has alot of potentially beautiful parks & architecture that are buried in what I'd call squalor as do both Hartford & New Haven. All three are steeped in history & have alot to offer.

As you said, hopefully they/we can clean them up eventually.

Interesting to note CT's cities ranked on the list:

(Rankings based on #1 through #261 cities over 100,000 in population)

#5 Stamford, CT
#168 New Haven, CT
#176 Bridgeport, CT
#181 Hartford, CT

bizjournals: Rank for 261 cities (http://www.bizjournals.com/specials/pages/190.html - broken link)

Sorry if this has already been posted, as the report came out sometime in August of this year.
Just a note from someone who routinely creates and analyzes demographic data (population, wealth…etc)…

The rank of Hartford 181 out of 261 is highly skewed toward real estate values and per capita incomes gives little real indication of the cities true character.

In fact, in terms of poverty in America…Hartford is behind only Laredo and Brownsville, Texas (to border cities) in the number of people living below the poverty line (In other words, of major US cities (100,000 +)…Hartford is the 3rd poorest poor capita). In 2002, the poverty threshold for a family of two adults and two children in the US was $17,463. Another startling contrast is the difference between city and suburbs; Hartford is an extremely poor city, ringed by extremely wealthy suburbs. Here is a short article.

Patterns of Poverty in America - Population Reference Bureau

In terms of persons living in poverty in major cities…Bridgeport (7#) and New Haven (11#) are only a little better.
