Litchfield is indeed a beautiful little town but keep in mind that if you want diversity of shopping for food or other staples you will have to go to either Torrington, Waterbury or Danbury.
We moved to Litchfield in 2002 after searching for seven months for an affordable place but we find now that it is too isolated for an active retirement lifestyle.
We would like to be closer to NYC if we don't leave the area entirely.
You might want to look in the general areas around Danbury and Southbury.

Hi, We have lived in Northwestern Ct. our whole lives. Litchfield county is a great place to be. It is a rural area, but close to large shopping areas, and not too far from New York State. We maintain a 13 room colonial with four acres, six miles to shopping, a firehouse nearby and great schools on a middle class income. Can't be beat and there are some real property bargains around here.
