Hi everyone

My husband, son and I are moving to New Haven by Jan 1, 2009. He will commute from there to Bronx, NY for work. We are a young couple and just wanted to know what areas should we avoid, like what blocks or what what side (north, south etc...).

Any info would help!!!!!!!!!! thank you sooooo much.......

I would avoid living in New Haven proper, especially if you are enrolling your son in a public school system. I don't know what your housing price range is; however, I would suggest looking at the towns of Orange, Hamden, and North Haven. I assume your husband is commuting to the Bronx via Metro North. All three towns offer relatively easy access to New Haven's Union Station (via I-91 and/or Route 34).

You might also consider Milford. It is a little closer to New York and has its own station on Metro North to commute from. The schools are very good, there is a lot of nice neighborhoods with a wide range of housing choices and there is excellent shopping and restaurant options available. Jay
