I am moving to New Haven with my husband and two kids (6 years, 6 months) this fall. We are trying to figure out where we should live and I was wondering what people think of Westville? What is it like as a place to live? Is it "neighborhoody"? Can one bike to Yale campus? Are there busses? What is is like as a place for kids? Are there good playgrounds/places to play/activities? What about Edgewood school?

If anyone knows the area around Central Avenue and Edgewood, I'd love to hear what that is like.

Thanks,
New in New Haven.

you have kids. in westville, you'd be in new haven public schools. unless you will send them to private school, i would go with hamden (from your other post) over westville because of this.

thanks lizzie007 - we will probably send the kids to private school... would that make you recommend westville, or not really?

westville is cute, definitely worth a look.
if it were me i would go to hamden because there is more "town stuff" for the kids - a big parks & rec program with TONS of sports, nice libraries with good programs, great parks etc. westville is part of new haven and you'd fall under the "city" umbrella for your services. just my personal preference.
also, as an fyi, westville is a BIG jewish neighborhood (i am jewish so i am not saying that as a negative). it is THE jewish neighborhood of new haven if not all of CT.
