My in laws are coming out over christmas, leaving the kids with us, and enjoying some time alone...the question is, where should they go?

I'm looking for an inexpensive chain-type motel with a pool/hot tub, along the sound, between new haven and mystic, in a nice area with shopping/antique stores would be great!

There is a Holiday Inn Express of Mystic. I stayed there once - free breakfast buffet too. There's also one in Branford, but it's near chains, etc. Not as close to the water.

Hamden has a nice Clarion; downtown Seymour is nothing but antiques and small antique shops.

I wasn't aware that you lived in Seymour/the Valley - having them stay in Mystic or even Branford would be quite a hike.

There are a bunch of hotels in Shelton - Hilton, Marriott, Holiday Inn, Residence Inn, Homewood Suites (Stratford) and Homestead Suites. There are many quirky antique shops in Seymour, and also about 25 minutes away up Rte 67 in Woodbury - the antique capital of CT.

they DO wan't to be a hike away from us, remember, they're leaving the kids with us and don't want to get too close

I'll definitely send them downtown seymour and woodbury!

I did find that the howard johnson in Mystic looks nice, newer, and has quite a good rate.

There are also the outlets over there too for more shopping options.
