yeah, there's really nothing around storrs.....manchester has a mall lol. willamantic is kind of a ghetto and hartford is a 1/2 hour away..

Willimantic is ghetto? Let me guess, you must be from a wealthy suburban town? Please, give me a break.

Whether or not there is ANYTHING around Storrs depends on how you define anything. As others have pointed out, there are big malls 20-30 minutes away. Hartford is a little farther than that. New Haven is about an hour away, and Boston and New York are still farther. Willimantic is just a few minutes away, and has some gems tucked away. And of course there are the thousands and thousands of young people on campus just looking for something to do.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned so far in this thread is the scenic beauty of eastern Connecticut. There are hiking trails galore, and rivers and streams and lakes. There are historic sites, and orchards. There are beautiful beaches within an easy drive.

The casinos are about the same distance as Hartford too for weekend excursions. Friday night is little black dress night if you go with a bunch of women from campus, they get in for free.

In addition to the gambling and clubs, there are a few bars, some good restaurants, live entertainment, boxing and UFC fighting, and shopping.

i said "kind of". honestly, i really didn't know much about it. i just knew some frat bros used to go there to get "hooked up". its probably a nice town.

i grew up in yonkers and outside new haven, albeit a suburb. AND i now live in philadelphia. so i know a thing or two about ghettos

I know that, and that's why I first pointed out the shopping and the fact that most of what there is to "do" is the tens of thousands of other young people. Lets face it, when you're 17, all that really matters is people your own age to hang out with.

I mentioned the other things for those rare few 17 year olds who might be into them, and for those who are no longer 17 who might be curious about what there is to do in the Storrs area.

Please don't fee the troll folks. This one's pretty obvious.

Nothing wrong with Hartford. It's a medium sized city with a lot to do and see aside from some ticky tacky recent made "district" of a row of bars for people to crawl back and forth from, puke in the alley, drive back to campus and wake up in your dorm with a hangover.

I'm not a troll. I dont mean to diss Hartford but as somebody who lives 45 minutes away from NYC I can just say Hartford isnt as big as people in the surrounding area think it is.

actually most of us know that hartford isn't "that big". But it is our closest urban center. Comparing it to NY or Boston is ludicrous and you'll find most of us don't do that - you did it. I would suggest that uconn is not the place for you. please stay in NY.
