sorry to kick this back up after so long, need a quick question answered. So, wife and I have sold our townhouse in Glastonbury. I am planning on relo out of CT with my employer, to either NC or FL. However, doubt that will happen before we close on our home next month. So, we need a short term rental. All the homes/townhouses in Glastonbury want 1 year leases...I can't commit to that. a couple of the apt complexes in Westlake will let us do 2or 3 month leases. We lived in Windshire Terrace for a few months when we first moved to CT....back in 2004. They will take us back again. Has that area changed for the worse or better in the 9 years we have been gone? We didn't mind it, and I have to keep it in perspective it is short term as I really don't want to waste $ on rent, but a necessary evil at this point in time.

Thoughts? Just me and my wife, no kids, no pets..just need a roof over our heads until we head southward.

Even looked at moving into a Residence Inn, they wanted $3k for the month

I've been living in the area about 15 months. It's just ok.

Check out the studios on Westlake...I think they still do month to month and its a safe complex. Mostly divorced middle aged guys. Used to be an equity property, if you're moving near one of their other communities they used to have portable leases too.

The area is busy...people bustling about at all hours so the city polices the area at all hours. We never had a problem there. Just lock your car doors, that was the only thin I ever heard...teens pinching items out of unlocked cars.

We are going to wind up in one of the apt. Complexes on Westlake, they will let us go month to month at a higher price of course, and don't want too much down. Only other option was a townhouse we found in manchester, would be willing to go 6 month lease but also wants 1st month, last month and 1 month sec deposit so I would have to come up with 5k right now I do understand owners wanting a long term commitment but guess we are going back to the apt lifestyle for a while after being homeowners for 9 years. Cest la vie, only temporary till we can buy in another state.

Oh well...no worries.

I live nearby (since 2007) and have friends on the street. It hasn't changed much over the years and I would expect it to be just like you remember it.

The area is nice, there are luxury and common apartment and condo's all throughout. I would move there with family without a second thought.

The state has NOT taken anything over. Goodness.

I lived in these "slums":

Just because your step sister was killed there does not mean West Lake is unsafe. This rarely happens. There were no murders in Middletown last year or in 2016. Also I know people that own a condo in West Lake for nearly 30 years and there was only one breakin there about 23 years ago when several apartments were targeted by two guys from out of town. That can happen anywhere these days though and I am sure you will agree, once in 30 years is not a lot. The West Lake area is very safe and I would not hesitate to live there. Jay
