Newlyweds, No children but soon, $600-800K housing budget, Husbands job will be in West Kingston, RI but willing to drive 45 minutes, seeks friendly, diverse, town with shops, restaurants, etc. Moving from Nashville, TN(A place we love).

I'd suggest beautiful Old Saybrook, CT but it's about an hour from West Kingston. I don't know RI too much but I hear East Greenwich is nice.

Live in Stonington or Mystic if you want a short commute.

Old Lyme, Saybrook if you don't mind driving.

As crazy as this sounds, I think we are more tax friendly then RI.

I've lived in all three states, but I'd say live in Wakefield, RI.

Probably the closest Connecticut location to West Kingston would be Stonington which is right on the border. It is a charming town with a lot of nice rural areas. It is about 30 miles from West Kingston though so it would take about 40 minutes or so.

Personally I prefer living as close to your job as possible to avoid long commutes. There are many nice towns in Rhode Island that you could select. For upscale homes, check out East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Good luck, Jay

I'd live as close to your job as possible, as Jay mentioned. Pick a lovely town within minutes of the job, and then the commute will be easy.

I went to Stonington recently for a Weston/Stonington basketball game because I'm the beat writer for the Weston basketball team and they thought we were rednecks!!!!! Like Fairfield County is farm country!!! I counted lkie 3 farms between the time I left Stonington High and got back on the highway.
