Fox News @10 just had the story. They showed some surviellance videos and the 911 call from the owner telling cops to shoot it because it was ripping her friend apart. See if we can find a video of it online. Post link here.

I don't think many of you appreciate the level of strength a chimp has. They are fearsomely strong creatures, even when babies. A 200 pound angry chimp is a public menace.

i can tell you from expierence, first chimps are never done with an attack, second, zoo's don't just take chimps, all zoo animals are pedigreeded through aazpa. third, if you have clear air between yourself and a pissed off chimp and a bullet dosen't stop it first it could very easily kill you. especially one between 90-160 or more pounds. people never learn. if you don't have many years of hands on expierence with them then go to the zoo and just stare at the chimp display.

It is now, but this chimp was "grandfathered-in". Trained people can own a wild animal if they have a special licence. The owner had one even though she was not required to. Jay

Well, i'm glad it's illegal now. It's a threat to society and people's neighbors.
If i lived in that neighborhood i for one would have NEVER left my house with the wild animal outside.
They are not and never will be pets.
Get a dog!!

The poor woman who was attacked, i feel awful for her and her family...

The more I hear about this on the news, the more horrifying the incident becomes. I do think the police acted responsibly; the chimp was a serious danger to the neighborhood. Imagine if it had gotten to any children in the area.

I listened to the 911 tape now on You Tube. It's really disturbing. I can't imagine what this woman was going through, watching her friend get eaten alive and then having to kill her beloved chimp. The whole thing is really tragic for all involved.

And often-times, they are unwilling to wait for trained wildlife handlers to arrive and effectively handle the situation.
Again, I'd have to agree. After hearing more details of the incident, it was indeed a tragic situation and the chimp had to go. The 911 tape was really disturbing...if only they'd stop playing it on the news.
