My husband just got a job in dayville ct and we are looking for somewhere to live that is within 30-45 mins of his job. We are city kind of people and don't want anything too rural. i was looking at waterford and saw that it has some shopping and things to do but is it safe? we are young family mid twenties and a 8 month old baby. any info in general would be appreciated! thanks

Here are my initial thoughts:

1) distance between Waterford and Dayville is 42 miles (approximately 47 minutes)

2) gas is relatively cheap now but there's talk of another tax increase

3) with an 8-month-old child, do you or your spouse really want to be that far from home

4) is Waterford close to family/friends

That would be about an hour commute to work and back. Are you sure that's something you're looking for?

to be honest, for what you're looking for, you'd probably be better off in Rhode Island as they have larger towns that are closer to Dayville. Providence is only 45 minutes from Dayville, and the outskirts would be even closer. I would ask on the RI board.

This is a good point. Folks living out this far probably do have a connection to Western Rhode Island.

On a map, I was looking at Killingly, of which Dayville is part, and its surrounding towns.

One ring out (or neighboring towns) includes the Putnam, Pomfret, Brooklyn, Plainfield, and Sterling.

Two rings out includes the towns of Thompson, Woodstock, Eastford, Hampton, Canterbury, Voluntown, and Griswold.

Three rings out includes North Stonington, Preston, Lisbon, Scotland, Chaplin, and Ashford.

You can see that Waterford hasn't been mentioned yet so it's at least four towns away.

Norwich has a larger population than Waterford and it's a little closer. Perhaps a town that is adjacent to Norwich would be a good compromise for the OP?

Waterford is a nice town, but the commute to Dayville would be killer. I-395 is a racetrack and there are serious accidents that close lanes or the whole highway quite often. It would be a better idea to look at Western RI and even in the area of Worcestor, MA (only 35 minutes to Dayville, according to google)

Unfortunately Dayville is kind of out there. You might consider a town like Mansfield which has some shopping nearby as well as UConn but is still kind of quiet. Another option may be in Massachsetts to the north. Auburn is a pretty big town and is about a half hour to the north on I-395. Oxford is much smaller but I believe it is pretty nice. Jay
