Bristol itself is a small mill toen/city parts of which have seen better days. It has some very nice areas and some sort of run down areas. Please let us know what you are looking for (house, apartment, size, price range, etc.) so we can help you better. Jay

Also, since I practice what I preach, let me also suggest taking a day or two to explore the whole city. Find an area you like and talk to some of the people on the streets (if you're feeling industrious, stop by the local P.D.). Ask everyone what they think of the neighborhood...
When I was apt hunting in Chicago, I found neighborhoods that were within my price range and talked to some of the people who lived in the area. You'll get extremely candid responses from those 'in the know'. Since living near the subway was integral for me, the #1 question I asked was if they would be worried knowing their girlfriend/wife/daughter was walking by herself late-night in the neighborhood. The answer to this question will give you the best idea as to the overall vibe of the 'hood.
Ok, I'm going to drop you off on Park Street,, I hope you speak Spanish because that neighborhood is mostly Spanish.. now let's walk down Park Street toward Trinity,, toward Pope Park,, I really doubt even if you speak Spanish anyone you might ask "oh how's the neighborhood" first of all they are not going to take the time to answer you and next they are going to lie, just because they can...now as continue down park and you ver off toward the west Hartford side,, oh,, just knock on a couple of doors,,while looking around notice that the first floor apartments or houses have bars on the windows... Gee I wonder why?? Keep in mind one more thing about Hartford,, check you with your car insurance for rates as well,, might be surprising... never mind checking with the police car insurance rates are almost in direct proportion to crime in the area...

Except the poster is not talking about Park Street. He is recommending the West End. Last I checked these are two different neighborhoods. Jay
