Hello everyone,

Since Connecticut does not offer an online real estate licensing program, does anyone know of a fast Principles & Practices pre-licensing course? I travel frequently for work and cannot do the typical weekly program. In my home state of Florida they offer online, 1 week, and 2 week courses. Would it be easier for me to just get my license in FL and then transfer to CT (since they have a reciprocal agreement)?

Thanks!!

In connecticut you MUST take a course, many of the community colleges have them as well as the Greater Hartford Association of Realtor office in west Hartford, then after completing the mandatory course you must mail in your completion to be able to take the licensing exam here in CT.
As far as i know their are no "online" programs for this.

Good Luck, it's a tough time for real estate agents.

There are no online courses. I know that the GHAR was offering classes on a "drop-in" basis (you can start at any time - i believe their classes are every Monday & another day). In Connecticut you must do 66 hours of classroom time. I got mine through Greater Hartford Community College.

The reciprocal agreement may actually be the way to go, if you have the time. Just be sure to call the CT Department of Consumer Protection to make sure you understand exactly what you'd need to do here to get the transfer of license. I believe it's just a paperwork exercise if you've gotten your license in Florida. Or they may make you take the CT licensing test again. Find out before you go through the expense of getting licensed in FL.

I took the program through the University of Hartford at night. It was okay, but the instructor wasn't the greatest and the availability was sparse.

The Greater Hartford Association of Realtors is a good resource for the class. Fred Southwell does most of the instruction and he's great. And the "drop in" schedule makes it easy to start taking the class at any time. Plan for about 3-4 months to get licensed based on the 60 hours of class time and then waiting to schedule the exam. Depending on where you'd be in the state, you may want to look into other area boards of Realtors that might be more convenient for you- ie- New Haven, Middlesex, etc.

And real estate is just like anything else, you get out of it what you put into it. Some agents are very busy right now, others- not so much.
