We intend to move to this area in the coming months.
We come from France, with our 3 children, 11, 13 and 15.
We need info for schools (french is their mother tongue), even private. We are catholic.
What is the budget for a house with 4 bdrs, close to the sea (Stratford, Milford), for rent or sale, in a friendly and safe area?
Any job opportunity for a french women, college graduated, speaking fluent english, spanish?

Many thanks for your help.

It all depends on what you are looking for. A small 1000-1200 sq ft cape in Milford would run around 300k. If you went colonial with 4 bedrooms newer construction anywhere from 450k-600k. Milford is a great little town with a lively center and tons of shopping and restaurants. The schools rate above average as well. Shelton has nice spots but not as much to offer overall. The job market here is relatively slow but I'm sure you could find something in time.

Stratford would be a nice pick for you. I would advise to look in the North End of town, Putney is the nice area up there, Paradise Green offers a small shopping area and Longbrook Park that is a very nice recreation area with a lake and stream, Academy Hill which is an historic area and a walk to downtown and the train station, and lastly Lordship which is an area within walking distance to the beaches. The schools in the north end of town are said to be better although Stratford has fully funded there education budget in a effort to equalize the education. The cost for each of these areas will very but you can look to spend anywhere from 350K to over a million depending on proximity to the water. You can plan on 400K-500K for some extreemly nice homes in Stratford. I would not look to buy near the Woodend Rd. area of Stratord or near the Bridgeport line near Barnum and Boston Avenues.

As you mentioned that you are catholic there are plenty of churches in town and St. James is supposed to have a very good catholic elementary school. For high school ages St. Josephs in Trumbull is very good as well.

Milford is just outside Fairfield county and has several nice beach communities and the taxes are a bit lower than Stratford's at this time. The area around Milford green is very picturesque. The home prices are similar to Stratford's right now. I would not look at the area off the Post Rd in Milford..very commercial.

As far as jobs in the area Connecticut has various industries that would probably look for someone with your language skills. We are heavy in the Defense/ Insurance/ and financial industries here. I am sure you would not have a problem finding a job.

Goodluck and welcome to America.

Default May want to consider Milford.

You may want to consider Milford as lot of people from Fairfield county priced out market are moving into Milford. It has a nice marina, nice school system, beach, shopping and anything the ideal city could have. The downtown area is very beautiful as well. They have a good commuter rail links city. I would disagree with someone on the post who said avoid the area close to RT 1, actually, north section of Milford close to post mall Route 1 has more newer and updated houses and its very safe too. They just built the police station right in the mall to make mall more secure. To sum it up its a very family friendly town which has lot to offer....and i am thinking that your going to get good bang for your buck overall...Let me know if any questions. Thanks, CoolStrom.

Smile Moving into Shelton

Have you been able to drive through different neighborhoods to see what you like ? That's where I would start. I have a 4 bedroom home in Shelton for sale or rent. I would be happy to show you the home and the neighborhood.
It may be a good idea to rent before you buy. Also check Trulia.com for city statistics, schools, home prices etc. Good luck! and Welcome!
