Hello everyone!

When people talk about the quiet corner of CT, where exactly is it? On the Norteast corner, Northwest side? Or where?
And what towns and or cities are in the quiet corner? And which ones are the least expensive & SAFE?
Thank you so much!

I'll let the regulars give you the details. I'll be touring the area to discover it myself.

Default re

The quiet corner is Northeastern Connecticut, mainly Windham County. Windham county is the least populated of all the counties in Connecticut and has for the most part the smallest towns. Although this area has small towns and a quiet feel, Northwestern Conneticut is very similar.

Towns like Pomfret, Woodstock, Hampton, Scotland, Chaplin, and Eastford are all relatively small, however Woodstock is growing and has a large highschool with around 1200 kids.

The area may have small quiet towns but you are still within 30-45 minutes from Hartford and Providence and 60-80 minutes to Boston.

TO JViello:

Thank you for the reply!
I did not specify too much, because it sounds like I am asking for a lot...But here it goes:
I love the 4 seasons, I do not mind snow, I actually like it. I would like to have a garden, I would like to be in a low cost of living area (even if its a bit rural)
I would like an inexpensive area. I am assuming that if you are far away from New York City and or the coastal areas, you would get better pricing on real estate. I have always liked the New England area, charming, quaint, safe towns. I need to be able to work from home, so access to HIGH SPEED INTERNET SERVICE is a must. I would love to have 1 acre of land if possible, a place with a basement, at least 1500 square feet (2000 square feet would be better) And I cannot go above the $200K-$250K range. If I could find something under $200K even if it was out in a rural area, that would be even better! The nice thing about being in CT. is that you are relatively close to several cities, right?
Thank you so much for all of the help you can provide me with. I will truly appreciate it.
Have a great day!
Sincerely,
COUNTRYLV22

Great, thanks for the info.

Based on your price range and desire - my first choice for you to check out is Willimantic and the surrounding area. (Colombia, Andover, Coventry, etc) That is considered the "quiet corner" of CT.

Willimantic is a small city with a nice little downtown and old victorian houses...what it gives you is access to stores and such without driving 30 minutes to Manchester.

You can find housing that fits your criteria in that area for sure.

Good luck!

JViello,

Are you familiar with Tolland and if so what are your thoughts? That is one of the places we've considered very closely. We've driven though it a few times I like how woodsy and quiet it seems.

I'd be most interested in what you find in the $200-$250 range and the 1500-2000 sq foot range. You should also check in if possible about the uptime of high speed internet access. Rural areas may have the service, but it's not always reliable. Power outages, trees falling on lines, etc...
