I'm interested to hear where these cheap homes in the 50k (??) to 150k range are, and in what kind of condition. I can't imagine any are in safe neighborhoods, and have interiors/exteriors that wouldn't require the buyer to shell out some cash for repairs.
i wish people were looking in my area!! i cant even get a showing and i lowered to 248 now with 2000 sq ft two acres and right next to highland lake! i cant believe this economy..
hearing that people are buying homes at this price so quick in other areas saddens me, my property is so gerogeous and i cant get a showing! 3 price drops since my last. people are still picking homes apart no matter how low the price... they want perfect and custom to them..
someone else from the waterbury area dmd me but and then he said that it was to far from waterbury for them but by far the best hes seen, if it was closer he would be all over it.. its prob 1/2 hr but i guess travel is an issue for alot of people.. i wish i was closer to waterbury.. even a realtor that had a couple in thomaston wouldnt even go as far as torrington.. the next town over..

Where are you? I noticed a lot of excellent buys in the Torrington area but the ex-wife will be working in North Haven and her mom is in Milford. One of her best friends has a great place up in Watertown.

It is a beautiful area. The northwest hills are actually my favorite part of Ct. but it's kind of out there for so many commutes. I wish you the best. May a sale be right around the corner for you.

Wow have prices come down in Ct! Some areas more than others of course.

I went around looking at real estate and was amazed.

A house identical to the one we sold in Milford for $270,000 just sold for $140,000 two blocks away.

It was not in as good as shape but just that a house could be had for that price in Milford was stunning.

A friend just bought a second home right across from Walnut beach for $175,000.

When I looked through the ads at houses for sale in Bridegeport and New Haven it was like I was looking at Ohio or Michigan.

Many houses listed at $30,000-$40,000-$50,000

It was reverse sticker shock. And all the houses listed sold for a dollar. So many foreclosures in the cities.

This is obviously a horrible economy. Without a doubt the worst since the great depression.

I am looking at the real estate for my wife (getting divorced) for she is returning to Connecticut.

I thought she was crazy as she is going to have to look for a house for around $150,000 but I have to take it back.

We searched the towns of Milford,Orange,Derby,Ansonia,North Haven,Wallingford and Hamden and their are over 190 houses for sale under $160,000 !

This is great news for those that are looking to buy as Ct. has not been this realitively affordable in a long time.

Luckily for her she is able to transfer in her job and actually make more money in Ct.

Rents are another story. They still have a long way to go to correct to the housing prices.
in the good school districts the prices have NOT come down that much- demand is still up....the bubble prices are still with us

there are two towns close to me.. turn left 15 min to big y torrington, turn right 15 min to stop and shop winsted.. i love living in the country but not far from towns... there are nice things in both towns.. torrington being larger has it all.. winsted has more quaint shops and restaraunts. one of my favorite. a dinner/movie theater the gilson. we are also about 5 min from highland lake and thats nice to have near..
i dont know about the tax breaks..
my property taxes are about 4200 a year..
we would stay here forever if we werent relocating south... it has been a beautiful place to live. very peaceful and breathtaking veiw!! thats hard to leave behind..

Hmmm...

Out here in Eastern Connecticut it's a much different story! Home prices in many towns have actually INCREASED despite the recession (Colchester, Griswold, Preston just to name a few). Taxes have SKYROCKETED. I don't know what this is an indication of, but certainly it's not getting less expensive out here...

Wow, that's great news for homeowners in those towns. Prices are driven up when demand exceeds supply. Homes must be moving quickly which is good news for those selling. They can turn around and buy somewhere else.

Yes, rising home values would increase your taxes, as well.

Whats driving your market? New businesses?

Hope this starts a trend through the state.
