Hello, does anybody know of or believe what happened in the movie? I've actually known about this years before the movie ever came out. I've read the book years ago and it was absolutely horrifying. The movie exaggerated but they didn't have to, the truth is very scary. Just love horror movies and just trying to have a little fun, don't mean any harm.

I saw an episode of "A Haunting" on the Discovery Channel that sounded very similar to the pretext of the movie (although I haven't--and will not--be seeing the movie.) Yes, I believe that it did happen but not as the movie depicts. In fact, the episode that I saw was much more frightening than any movie that I have ever seen, and was actually the most frightening episode of that series that I have ever seen.

Yes, the discovery channel was scarier and matched the book version of what happened. When i heard the movie was coming out, i knew they would mess up and dramatize the truth, when in fact, it wasn't even necessary, because the truth is actually scarier than the fictional version. And as far as the other threads of the haunting, i didn't see those until i started this thread. When i saw the other threads i started to delete mine, but i figured what the heck.

I like the thread. Especially b/c now I know (and feel better) that I am not the only one who saw the DC episode.
Seriously, when I was writing that post last night, I was getting chills just thinking about it and even looked over my shoulder (eek!)
I think that the movie's use of special effects was what really screwed the whole story up; the effects were just really unneccessary and detracted from the story's realism.
What I loved about the DS episode was that it was able to capture the feeling in the house without special effects, which was even creepier, b/c you just knew that something weird was going on, and it was even weirder that you couldn't actually see it. Plus, the guy that narrates those episodes is really perfect--great scary voice and perfect intonation.

I agree. I saw the movie on the discovery channel years ago, and i have the narrator version from the dc channel also. It was a two pack dvd set, the haunting in connecticut and a haunting in georgia. The actual movie from the discovery channel scared me silly and i don't get scared from horror films.
