I thought it was a bag stuck in the tree the other day. Then today I thought it was a hat. HELP!! I'm allergic!

Are you sure that's not a wasp's nest?

Whatever it is, I would get someone to remove it and you stay WELL away, you have an Epi pen I hope??
Get a lawn man, a neighbor man whoever to knock it out of the tree and then run like a crazy person. I have never seen anything so huge. When I have small wasp nests, they make a foam you spray on them but that thing is WAY to big for that.

I suppose setting the tree on fire is out of the question.

That looks like a bald faced hornet nest. They will abandon the nest in the fall and then you can take it down or have someone else do it for you.

I never got the epi-pen!!! Dammit. No fires but great idea. LOL It's 16 feet high so any spray won't be powerful enough from the ground.

Town won't help. Orkin said they don't use ladders anymore. Just called the fire department left message.

Wasps are flying in & out of it!

LOL Relax. (Well maybe not since you are allergic. )

I had a similar nest "grow" above where my wife parks in our upper area. She was walking out to the car one day and I happened to look up...

I'm a little nuts, so consider the source.

I took several 2x2's I had lying around from a project and did the boomerang deal till I nailed it. (In the process I had one bee, swarm down and he apparently misjudged his distance as he just slapped my neck with no sting.)

After it landed, we went inside and let the dust settle. I took several cans of "wasp killer" and sprayed the nest and that was that.

Next morning, the honeycombs were eaten...we have a local Skunk who like to root around. I hope he's okay. LOL

Anywho. Call and exterminator and they will take care of it. Just don't let them take you on an emotional ride for $$$.

Good luck!

P.S. Watch out for grunting noises behind your house and half eaten deer legs on your front lawn...I hear they are nothing to worry about.

OMG! That looks like something out of a horror movie. It's not bees, though. I'd say wasp or hornet, probably hornet. Either way, you are in danger if you are allergic. Kids are even more in danger.

Good luck and keep us informed, please. Take good care of yourself.

Are you ONLY allergic to bee stings?? Or could your reaction extend to other things like wasps or hornets?

Personally, I would ask a doctor for an epi pen, regardless of your tree situation. It could save your life depending on how severe your allergic reaction is.

well put it this way...I'm not a big guy but I dont feel pain like an average person does. I didn't feel the sting when I got stung but later on when 1 itchy mosquito looking bite turned into 2 itchy ones then 4 then 8 then 16 then hives appeared all over my body...I knew it was an allergic reaction to something.

Then I remembered the same incident when i was a kid and realized it was a bee sting. Wasp most likely because of the area I was working in the bushes.

After the hives multipled my blood pressure dropped to 60/90 1 stage above a coma and so I got light headed, dizzy, fell to floor and had to call 911. They had hard time reading the BP. They thought I was dead. lol

They gave me benedryl through iv. Hives cleared up. Blood work was fine.

No Epi-Pen.

YOU'RE RIGHT!! Did a google search and its a bald faced hornet nest! Thanks UnschoolerinCT! They won't re-use it next year but it says it'll get 3 feet tall?? WHAT!?

They also dont leave stingers in you and if you get stung just put baking soda on the bite.

My question is....I know hundreds of them are in there, where are the ones going in and out going?? another nest?? And won't rain or wind knock it down??
