I know people that do it. It's not so bad. I would recommend saying toward the New York side of town so you can avoid a lot of the traffic coming into Danbury.

I agree with jdhall1 and will add the following:

1) Since the Bronx does not involve going over a bridge from Danbury it won't be too bad. A good 40-45 miles each way, but not much traffic.

2) The one area to watch for traffic-wise is the Hutchinson River Parkway. You'll only be on it for about a 10-12 mile stretch from the end of I-684 to the Bronx. Depending where on the Bronx you are, you might be able to avoid it altogether, if you are in the central or west Bronx instead of the eastern Bronx, when 684 ends you might want to just go onto I-287 west and take the Sprain/Bronx Parkway in or even pay the toll and take the NY State Thruway (I-87) into the Deegan Expwy. (unlike most tollbooths in the area, this one and the related road is not trafficked at all since most drivers take other parallel "free" roads like the Sprain and Saw Mill Parkways). I would not advise using the Saw Mill Parkway as a west Bronx alternate though as it has a couple of traffic lights and can get quite crowded around those.

Good luck!

My recommendation would be, if you can afford it - stay close to the Mill Plain side of town. Exits 1 and 2 off 84, close to the state line. The more north and east you head, the more you get bogged down by the extra traffic near downtown and the Route 7 interchanges.

With decent traffic, you can make it in 45 min to an hour, depending on which part. The hard part is once you reach about White Plains and the 287/Hutch split at the bottom of 684.

It's a large community of about 300 units along the Danbury/Bethel line. I believe that they have sold over half of the units. They are almost all 3 bedroom units with 2 car garages built in the arts & crafts style. Standard features include gas heat & central air. There is a clubhouse & pool. About 5 minutes to the I-84 & Route 7 intersection of the west side of town. Baker has built a couple of other communities in the Danbury area. In addition to the new construction, there is a couple of resale units on the market that feature many upgrades.
