Naugatuck is a town (borough) in an area of Connecticut called the naugatuck valley. Most of this area is made up of blue-collar folks that work in the manufacturing industry. Naugatuck has urban neighborhoods (Spring St) and suburban neighborhoods (City Hill). The majority of the the neighborhoods are old, but some are still classy. The town has 1 high school. Some students travel to private schools in Waterbury (because Naugatuck doesn't have any) or Magnet Schools in Waterbury.

This was true 15 years ago. Not today, by a long shot.

Good post, except most do not work in the manufacturing industry anymore. I know plenty of people in Naugatuck and none work in that industry. Those days are long gone, and most in Naugatuck are commuters.

Suburban.
A lot of people up there now are people who work in Danbury or in lower Fairfield and live there and put up with a moderately long commute for the much cheaper housing. When my wife worked in Norwalk for the first half of the 2000s she knew quite a few co-workers who commuted from there.

Exactly. Especially Danbury, since Naugatuck is right off of I-84. When I lived in Danbury 5 years ago, Naugatuck was just being discovered. Many were moving there from Danbury and Bethel, and New York.

Agreed. Though there are some who believe it is still the way it was in the 80's and early 90's. Lots have cashed out (in Oxford and Huntington) and moved to cheaper areas, so the middle class is really being pushed out. It's unfortunate because these towns are already unaffordable and will continue on this track.

As for Ansonia and Derby - well, they need quite the face lift before I would recommend it for anyone looking for a good QOL. Downtown Derby is an embarrassment to Connecticut.
