Thank you everyone that has responded to my previous post- it is a great forum for those of us moving from far away!! We are planning on moving this winter- and my husband's job will be in Wallingford...I will look at Southington and Chesire- but for some reason have felt drawn to Farmington and Glastonbury as well..My kids are 4 and 6 and we would like great public schools, nice YMCA/or local rec center, and perhaps some "down to earth" neighbors...We can spend about $800K, but would like to be in a neigborhood with young kids running around..
ANy thoughts on commute from Wallingford, schools, neighborhoods would be appreciated!! THanks so much.

For a commute to wallingford I would suggest glastonbury as your best access. $800K will buy you a very nice house in glastonbury. Neighborhoods vary greatly so only you can decide which type of neighborhood will work best for you.

Glastonbury and Farmington are about the same distance from Wallingford (about 25 miles). I agree with Uconn97 that Glastonbury is an easier commute. Getting out of most of Farmington can be difficult due to traffic. Most of Glastonbury has very easy to access major highways. That said, Glastonbury does not have a local YMCA or rec facility. There is a community center but it really is a Senior Citizen Center. There are a LOT of recreation acitivites though held in the local schools all year long. The town has a large sports program (football, baseball, soccer, basketball, lacrosse, etc.). As for people, Glastonbury and Farmington are probably about the same when it come to down-to-earth people. $800k will buy you a very nice home here. The schools are excellent (that is why most people move here) so there are lots of kids in town. As for neighborhoods, Glastonbury is a pretty large town with a lot of different neighborhoods. It would be up to you to deterine which is best for you. Overall I think you will like it here. Jay
