Hi i will be making a move in the next year and am considering CT. im a RN and my Fiance is a High School Guidance counselor. We are wanting to buy a house possibly in 200,000 range. we love to be active and shopping is important but i hate the congested city feel. Im from western MA and love the feel of it but need a bigger area. any suggestions? i was looking in western CT area? i need feedback!

200k won't get you much (if anything) in a good portion of Western CT. You might want to look into Stratford where you can probably get a starter home, or the Prospect area a little north.

Do you have to live in Western CT? It's a lot more expensive to live west of Hartford and New Haven. Eastern CT is much more affordable and has some great areas.

You can find single family homes in New Milford around $250,000

Somewhat true except for two things:

1) Immediately west of Hartford is the towns of Farmington, Avon, and Simsbury, which are among the most upscale suburbs of the area.

2) Much of Litchfield County (essentially the northern half of western CT) has quite a few "NYC weekend homes", including some owned by celebrities, which can drive the price up a bit. But I believe (others can chime in who know more) that Litchfield Co. also has some affordable homes.

There are homes in your price range of $250000 and under in Stamford, Norwalk,Bridgeport, Fairfield, Trumbull and the most are found in Stratford, and this would be along the shore line. In northern Fairfield County you can find homes $250 and under in Brookfield, Danbury, Newtown, New Fairfield, and New Milford. These towns are inland. If the shore line is what you are looking for, then also think about Milford, Branford, The Heavns, West Haven, East Haven, and North Haven.
Hope that helps to answer your question.

You're pretty much looking at small starter homes in Stratford or Milford, or something New Milford and north. And this might be pushing the price range.

Western half of CT is nice. But the eastern side is cheaper.
