This is premature, as I don't even have the job offer yet, but there is at least a chance of my getting a job in Fairfield. I am in my 20s and single and would like to find an apartment in a decent area for young people. I've heard good things in this regard about South Norwalk and Stamford. Are these the best areas to focus on, with the understanding that I'd like to be in a fairly young, active area with bars, restaurants, shops, theaters, etc. Is it possible to find an apartment in an area fitting this description for less than $1,000? I realize this would likely relegate me to a studio, which is ok. If there are options <$1k, how low does it go? That is, what is the cheapest range that I could expect to find in an area matching my description (or in close proximity to such an area).

Thanks very much!

Black Rock. It's right on the Fairfield line. Stamford and SONO are going to be a reach on your budget. If Black Rock doesn't appeal to you, try New Haven.

I'd say New Haven. Maybe Danbury, it's about 45 minutes or so to Ffld but upper Fairfield County is cheaper than lower.

I agree that Black Rock would be a good place for you to start. Jay

I just moved to Black Rock myself. There are places to be had for under $1,000.00. I wanted a bit more space, so I am renting the bottom floor of a 100 year old three family that has been recently renovated for $1150. Very affordable for me.

It's a really nice area. I love the proximity to the water, Captain's Cove Marina, some good bars and coffee shops. I see a group of mothers walking their babies in strollers each morning. The neighborhood has some character and diversity and its :30 seconds from the Fairfield line. I know I'm still a newbie, but it's a really great area. The only place I have lived in Fairfield County where neighbors came to introduce them self and welcome me.

Also convenient to NYC by train, upstate CT via 15 and Rt 8 and downtown Fairfield and Westport for people watching, coffee sipping, book buying and wine sipping.

mlassoff - Glad to hear you like Black Rock. It is a very nice area and affordable by Fairfield County standards. Thanks for the post. Jay
