The thing about CN Station, though, is that it's kind of pan-Asian: the best dishes I've had there were their Ma-Po Tofu (which was excellent) and their stir-fried rice cakes with beef (also excellent). I'm not entirely sure whether their culinary background is Sichuanese, Hunanese or Vietnamese, but I've enjoyed everything. At Vietnam Palace, the husband and wife are Vietnamese, and the husband does much of the cooking and delights in recommending special dishes to patrons. I loved their Pho - I thought it was rich and beefy and aromatic with star anise: I'm sorry others haven't felt the same.

As for the Danbury place, I've read that it's very good but haven't been there yet. Stay tuned...
That is pretty typical of Asian culture; to many Westerners, they can come off as overbearing about whether the food is good or not. However, Asians take much pride in the food they serve and are very service-centric.

Has anyone tried this?

Lean's Vietnamese Food Cart - New Haven, CT

I noticed it today among the myriad food carts at Yale New Haven.

Haven't tried it, but have heard amazing things about it. What's your take on the Latin/Hispanic food trucks along with water by Ikea?

So I tried Milford Mexican and Pizza yesterday, at least the Mexican part. Have to say I was disappointed. The tacos were great (and cheap at $2 a pop), but besides that the enchiladas were OK but the rice and beans and shrimp quesodilla were mediocre at best. Didn't try the pizza, but it looks horrendous - brown and dry, sitting on the counter.

Just as a general rule, if a restaurant offers more than one type of ethnic food... I'm out.

Tried the Pho place on Main Street in Manchester this weekend. Delish!

I think the quesadillas are the Americanized kind. I guess catering to that set. I love their tacos and huaraches.

They are mostly Mexican. I like the yellow one that says "Mexican Food" on the side. Nexicali is the popular one, which I think is OK. I never go to them though because the food carts by the hospital and hockey rink are just so good and varied.

mlassoff, agreed 100% - that's why I avoid any "pan-Asian" bs places. I tried MMP b/c it was mentioned a few times as a great place for Mexican.

Stylo, thanks for the tip. We went to Great Wall on Saturday - I wanted to try the food carts but wasn't sure where they are. Will be on the lookout this weekend, tks. Any particular one you recommend?

I'm not sure if they're around on weekends. It might just be during the work week. You could try Cedar Street by the hospital on the weekend around lunch time.

As a rule of thumb, I NEVER order quesadillas from any Mexican restaurant in the US. It's usually not a Mexican speciality at these places since you really need fresh masa to do it properly. 9/10 you get an item that's catered to an American audience, so I'm not at all surprised you weren't impressed by that item. It's not much different from ordering pizza there.
