Live longer?

Those who finally quit that nasty habit, but were powerless to quit an even more nasty habit (driving a car) and who were victims of a fatal crash will hotly disagree with you.

But there are those who will trust your psychic abilities.

Don't have to shhhh. Congress already increased the loose cigarette tobacco tax on 4/1 to the equivalent level of what they're taxing a pre-made pack at. Loose cig tobacco is now taxed at $24.78/lb. on the federal level. It was previously $1.10/lb.(not a misprint). That represents a nearly 2200% tax increase. If an increase of that magnitude doesn't scare people, i don't know what would.

Generally speaking, to make a pack of cigs requires ~.67ounces of tobacco. $24.78/16(ounces)= $1.55X.67ounces=$1.04 per pack for loose cig tobacco tax. Pre-mades are taxed at $1.01 per pack.

In the circumstance of the 2200% tax levy being enacted with virtually no notice, many companies were forced to cease operating, or better still, change their method of product production to mitigate the tax impact.

That is really a poor argument. My dear old Dad quit when he was 50 years of age as his Dr. said he wouldn't make it through another Flu season alive. He lived another 30 years!!!!!

So don't hang onto your habit! You will live longer!!!

Today is my 45th B'Day. I have smoked since I was 13. I recently started taking Chantix(4Weeks) Chantix gives me Nightmares almost nightly. Not to mention how nausiated it makes you after you take a dose.(Better then Chemo later) However I have found my Cravings have almost completely been removed. I feel my problem will be just the Habit of smoking that will be my stumbling block

My father had four heart attacks between the ages of 41 and 48 and just as many bypass surgeries. He was a 3+ pack-per-day smoker.

Why take the risks with smoking? It is proven that it is very bad for your health. If you smoke you will suffer and risk dieing younger than if you did not smoke. Assuming a BUS does not hit you! (How many people actually get hit by a Bus I wonder?)

A 3 pack a day smoker spends over $8,000.00 a year. You do the math if you smoke less. This is enough reason to quit even if they were not bad for your health.

I've been cigarette free since June 16,2002! They were $4.50 a pack when I quit and I thought that was too expensixe.
