We're looking to buy next year (hopefully) and are curious about homeowners insurance. How much does it typically cost? Does anyone run into any issues getting it in Northford/North Branford, Wallingford, or North Haven?

Thanks in advance.

Whoa! Weird timing! I just posted something the other day because I did have a problem. Here's the link: //www.city-data.com/forum/conne...insurance.html

We are buying a house that's in Northford, right near Northford center....and the "on your side" insurance company wouldn't insure this house.

The "good neighbor" insurance company just gave me a quote, and I just found out that the previous owner has the "in good hands" insurance company. I'm calling them next.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info! I wouldn't have expected to find an issue getting insurance at all. How much does homeowners insurance typically cost??

The cost of homeowners insurance and the eligabilty depends on the following factors: distance to shoreline, coast, bay or areas subject to tidal flow. If your proerty is in close distance, say 2600 ft, you may be required to have flood insurance, and hurricane protection devices such as shutters and/or hurricane glass. the "on your side" carrier does write homeowners insurance in these areas if above mentioned requirements are meet. if you are further away from the shoreline, the requirements could be less. Also keep in mind, most, if not all, carriers will give you a higher deductible for wind and hail which is usually a percentage of the dwelling coverage. I hope this helps and please contact me if you have any additional questions.
