I am thinking of relocating. For now it is the search. I have never lived in the east but would love the change of inspiration as an artist.
I am wondering where is the artist meca in Conneticutt. And would a west coast fine artist do well in Mystic area. I am use to living near the water as I sail and have to live by the ocean or large bodies of water,
Anyone out there with info for me. Living in Belize at the moment.

The Mystic area would be great for an artist. It has a lot of beautiful areas for inspiration. Not sure what kind of artist network there is in the area but I would be surprised if there was not one. Another area to consider would be the lower Connecticut River towns of Old Saybrook, Essex, Chester, Deep river, East Haddam, Haddam and Lyme. This is a beautiful area with a lot of great places to live. It is quieter than the more touristy areas in Mystic. Jay

Salisbury in the northwest hills is one of the preeminent places worldwide to live as an artist- though it is not near the sea (60 miles to LI Sound) the number of world wide famous artists nearby is large-

Lyme has an art academy and there is a thriving art community there- you should go and explore and see if it fits your needs. tastes, etc.

Florence Griswold Museum is located in Lyme and it is a pretty lively place.

I know you're asking about Connecticut, and you've likely already considered Rhode Island, but if not, you might want to investigate the Providence area -- especially the small towns surrounding it -- Providence has a huge artist population -- including, but not just because of the schools (RISD etc) there -- and you're not far from some wonderful local shore towns, not to mention Cape Cod. Good luck figuring this out!
