Anyone bought a used car from them? What was your experience and would you buy from them again?

My inlaws bought a minivan from them when they first opened in East Windsor. They had a good experience and surprisingly the car has lasted a long time without issues. You may pay a bit more than if you bought direct from someone but they make sure the car is in good condition when they sell it to you. Worked for my inlaws. Jay

I've visited CarMax in Hartford a few times and I play around on their website all the time when I'm bored just to see what’s out there. They sell good cars and are sometimes a little more expensive, but at the same time it is a very simple process.

The only problem I see with CarMax is a lot of the cars they sell are retired rental cars. I know myself and most people I know beat the snot out of rental cars when we have them. If you are looking for an economy car or basic transportation and are looking at CarMax, chances are you are sitting in a formal rental car. On their website under formal use if it says "fleet" this almost guarantees it was a rental. I, myself, would never buy a used rental car.

On the upside, a rental is retired young (20,000 ish miles) and usually has all the maintenance done on it on a scheduled basis.

But go test drive what you like and see if it fits you. Just don’t count out the small independent places or private sellers.

Bought my car from them a month ago. Was turning in my leased BMW and just wanted a car w/out the whole day-long price haggling. Found a 2009 SUV, test drove it, said 'this is the one,' had my bank draft and was able to make the transaction in a couple of hours. My bank in FL was closed on the weekend so they couldn't verify the draft. They wanted to give me their financing so I could take the car right away. I waited until Monday evening to finish up the paperwork and take possession of the car. The only issue I have is I'm still waiting on a replacement antenna that was promised to me a week after the sale. It's been 4 weeks now. I think I'll give them a call now.
