Which route has less traffic? 84-684 or 91-95?

From my experience, 84-684, but it can vary. Both can get lots of traffic (though 684 rarely does, on that route it's usually parts of 84 and then whatever you take after 684 to get to NYC (i.e. the Hutch, or I-287, etc.), but on average I'd say 91-95 (mostly the 95 part) gets more traffic and gets it more often.

Keep in mind that if you're not driving a commercial vehicle you also have the option of the Wilbur Cross Highway/Parkway to the Merritt Parkway to the Hutch Parkway which usually has a little less traffic and is a prettier road (though the Hutchinson Parkway can be brutal at times as can the Merritt sometimes).

But once you get to Westchester County, you'll probably start having traffic going to the city, so even then if you don't take Amtrak all the way, you might want to park at a Metro North station and train it in from there (something you can also do from many points in Fairfield County and do less driving, as well as from Waterbury, though from there it is less trains and switching trains somewhere).

Have fun!

I would definitely avoid I-95. Take either the parkways of I-84/I-684. Much less traffic IMHO, Jay
