Hello

I'm very curious about how is a living in Hartford, CT.
How is......
Cost and quality of living?
Crime level?
Wages?
Opportunities?
Traffic?
People?
Weather?
Id it family friendly?

I'm a 23-year-old student currently living in Miami, Fl, which I really hate. Reasons: weather sucks, cost of living is crazy, very low wages, people are rude and supercial, traffic and drivers are horrendous, not a family friendly city, lack of advacement and opportunities, high crime, full of low-income and welfare suburbs, and there's nothing to do if you are away from clubs and the night scene. I want to move as soon as possible I get my bachelors' or probably before that with my boyfriend, which he totally agrees for the same reasons.

Thanks I appreciate it

If you are used to living in a very large city, you might find it somewhat boring (though you are only 2 hours from Boston and NYC if you want to enjoy the amenities of either), also if you've lived in a part of the country with a very "cheap" cost of living, you might find it somewhat expensive. But that said, you may also find it to be a very nice balance as an "in between" of a big city life and a small metro area, it's kind of a nice combination of both and is easily drivable to both shore and mountains for great outdoor access.

Personally, I think it's a great area!

I live in Orlando and hate it for all the same reasons. I'm looking into Hartford as well. You might also consider looking into Buffalo. Buffalo is cheaper and from what i'm told has a great city life. Though Hartford's economy might be a little better... I'm still deciding..Good Luck!

My sister lives in the Buffalo area.....cheap living but no jobs (she's a tenured college professor so she has it good!)

Well...anywhere here in the Northeast the cost of an apt. is going to be higher than in Miami. Wages would be more too, though, but that depends on what kind of a job you are looking for. Unless you make at least 10$ an hour you will not be able to afford a car, apt, groceries...etc and that's to live reasonably...not in poverty and not richly either. And I'm just using a single person working a 40 hour week as a guideline here. Plus I'm assuming you will have two incomes with your bf included? Family friendly...well I wouldn't recommend raising children in Hartford. Good for a day trip to the museum, etc. Weather...well of course we have the four seasons and snow. That is the main reason for me staying in New England. The cost of living is high, but I absolutely love having the seasons. Summers not too hot, but humid! Winters can be rough or easy. The weather is always changing and unpredictable here. On the upside, no hurricanes. Rudeness...well I've never been to Miami but in general people up here are regarded as being less friendly than people down south. You just need to visit and develop your own opinion. Crime...well the crime rate for 2008 in Miami with a population of 410,201 was 632.3 Hartford with a population of 124,062 had a crime rate of 637.1. The national average is 320.9 You can go to the city links right here on the cd website for an exact crime rate breakdown. And of course, in these economic times especially, make sure that you have a job lined up before you relocate anywhere.

Go to a website like rent.com or craigslist to check out the apartments, because you know exactly what you may be looking for. For a one bed. the rent would be anywhere from 600 and up I would say.
