I am in the process of accepting a job in fairfield county(Stamford) and would like to know what if i can get anything in the $300,000 range. A friend of mine took me to bridgeport and showed me tons of new townhouses they just build out there but i am not a big fan of the area. Is there any fairly new townhouses or condos in the $300,000 range closer to stamford?

Stamford is in lower Fairfield County which is one of the most expensive parts of the country. You will not find much in Stamford new or old for that price. Norwalk is a bit more affordable but not much.

I am not sure what parts of Bridgeport you were in but there are many very nice neighborhoods to consider. The North End, west of Main Street and north of North Avenue is very nice. Black Rock is also very nice.

Remember Fairfield County is a mature area so you will not find a lot of new construction. You also might want to check Stratford and Shelton for places. Jay

You can get newer construction up in the Danbury area and commute down to Stamford. Many of the newer communties offer residents things like heated pools & clubhouses.

As JayCT mentioned, check out all areas in Bridgeport--Brooklawn and the North End are the best--as well as Blackrock. Taxes are high in Bridgeport though, and many neighborhoods in-between are very sketchy and can be unsafe.
I'd also suggest looking at condos in Stamford. Prices have really dropped. Stamford has a lot of homes in the 350-450k range today--whereas in 2006 when we were looking, there were *maybe* 2 or 3 houses under 400k in all of Stamford. I bet if you look hard enough, you might be able to snag a great deal for 325 or so...

You will be able to find renovated/updated condos in Stamford, Norwalk, and Fairfield in your price range, but you will probably have trouble finding new construction under $300K. If you are devoted to the idea of living in a brand new complex, you may want to live in a town along Metro North's New Haven line and commute to work.

The North End and Black Rock sections of Bridgeport are very nice and are seeing new construction popping up (as you mentioned,) but the city's property taxes are astronomical. You may want to consider moving to Stratford or Milford. Both towns are in the process of transforming as families and businesses move away from the increasing cost of living and doing business in lower Fairfield County. That being said, if you are willing to live in a renovated space, moving to a condo in Greenwich or Stamford may be a better decision because you will probably have a larger return on your investment if/when you choose to sell.

hi,I'm moving to fairfield from the UK in March and will be commuting to wall street 2/3 times a week.

is the train from Fairfield crowded or is it easy to get a seat with space to work/read etc?

also what is the best way to get from Grand central to the financial district?

Perhaps a new thread would have been appropriate for this topic. Welcome to the USA and Connecticut. I use the train to get from Fairfield to NYC about once a week. During rush hour on most trains it is difficult to get a seat with room to work. By the time the train gets to Fairfield, often the seats remaining are middle seats where you might find it difficult to spread out and work.

I purchased a netbook laptop for when I am commuting on the train and for my frequent airplane trips. It is small enough where I can use it comfortably without disturbing others.

The easiest way to get from Grand Central to Wall Street is the subway. Take the 4 downtown, get off at City Hall. From there its about a 5 minute walk.

Be careful of property taxes too. You cant avoid not looking at them before even thinking of purchasing a home. Unless you are rich and doing very well, property taxes are high enough in certain areas through out the state, where they can be the difference of affording that home or not. Ive found this out myself and it is unbelievably aggravating.

I respectfully disagree.You can get a two bedroom condo in Stamford or Norwalk for that price.The hard part is getting a mortgage.
