You can thank ME for today. If i hadn't opened my mouth on Page 3 of this thread, this 4" "squall" wouldn't have happened.

An hour later it wouldn't look like it snowed at all! I think we got close to 12 inches in 05 and then maybe they got 12 after we moved in 09.

Okay so maybe Feb will make up for January.

How often does Central CT get a white St Patrick's day? Is that pretty rare?

MARCH SNOWSTORMS IN THE TRI-STATE AREA:

I didn’t have a lot of time, so I just scanned the NWS site (NWS-NYC/NJ/Southern CT) and the data they had (plus a little personal experience in southern Connecticut).

A “white St. Patty’s Day” is a bit harder to find data on. However if you use the National Weather Service criteria for a “Winter-Storm”…meaning a snowfall of 6.0 inches (or greater) Below are the number or 6.0 inch + “snowstorms” at NWS Bridgeport over the last 60 years (1948 – 2008) in March:

3/16/2007 – 6.0 inches
3/7/2003 - 7.0 inches.
3/13/1993 - 10.6 inches.
3/19/1992 – 7.1 inches.
3/29/1974 – 7.6 inches.
3/22/1967 - 11. 1 inches (The largest snowstorm in March in Southern CT in 61 years).
3/3/1960 – 7.5 inches.
3/19/1956 - 9.8 inches.

As you can see…there has been only eight (8) occurrences when a true “snowstorm” was recorded at NWS Bridgeport in the whole month of March in the last 60- years. Put another way…only once every 7 years or so is there a true “snowstorm” in southern Connecticut in March. By March 12th on average…NWS Bridgeport has seen the last inch of snow for the winter season. Heavy snow and snowstorms in March across far southern Connecticut are not very likely, perhaps once a decade you might see one…although we went from 1974 to 1992 (18 years) without getting even ONE six inch or greater snow. Of course the numbers for northern Connecticut would (should) look different with much more frequent snowfall in March. In my location (coastal –east of New Haven) snowfall much after mid March is brief and melts within days (even in one day). Up in the NW Hills of Connecticut near the MA line on the other hand, they get dustings of snow till the first week of April many times.

In Connecticut it’s all about elevation when it comes to snow it seems.

No offense, but I would have been more impressed if it had been the storm this weekend that you had originally predicted. This was luck. But apparently anyone can do a better job of predicting than the weather people currently can!
