Does anyone use an over the air HDTV antenna? What CT stations come in well in NE CT?

I'm interested in bypassing any cable or dish subscription since we normally watch pbs and network shows... and hulu for anything else.

You'll get the standard FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS. In addition Create which I believe is a PBS station and a few others. It will be very limited stations but with Hulu and a few other options it won't leave you missing much if you don't watch any premium stations regurally.

On a side note: My brother used to live in SC and tried this because he was tired of paying for cable. He bought a $50 antenna at Best buy, when I was down there visiting him, and was only able to get 13 stations on it. There was one FOX station and 12 PBS stations. I laughed, then we returned it.

Sadly, the day is coming where you are going to have to have cable or FIOS no matter what (or solely rely on the Internet). I wouldn't be surprised if 10-20 years from now the networks are pay cable channels and a lot of the Internet is pay (though there'll probably be a big free "underground").

This is interesting and I agree with you. How do you think our representatives will respond to pressure from their constituents about the internet and all cable channels going pay only? Just think of the revenue stream created to pay for healthcare and god knows what!

I bet people freak out and make the tea party movement look like a bunch of kids.

Depends how far northeast.

Closer to Willimantic, you'd probably get 3, 30, 61, and others.

If you're way up in the corner like me - there's 2, 4, 5, 7, 25, 27, 38, 56 (Boston)

Down around Killingly and Plainfield you'd probably get the 6, 10, 12, 28, 64 lot (Providence)

Thought I'd share the results.

I went out and bought a $60 antenna. Figured it would pay for itself in three or so months. After a relatively easy install, I was up and running with a dozen or so channels. Unfortunately none of the network stations came in very well. CPTV was great. ION was great. A religious channel was good. The rest were spotty. I'm in Storrs and on a hill and I guess I'll be buying basic cable or Dish (already hooked up).

We are in Middletown and we get channel (s) 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4 (CBS-CT and Springfield), 18.1, 18.2, 18.3 (These are spanish speaking channels), 20.1 (the CW), 20.2 ("This" a movie channel - sometimes obscure movies?!?!), 24.1, 24.2, 24.3 (these are PBS stations on of which is Create - similar to HGTV), 30.1, 30.2, 30.3 (NBC), 61.1 (Fox), 61.2 (Antenna TV - Vintage Sitcoms - So Awesome). These all come in crystal clear. There are 2 other stations that are mostly static. We don't get any ABC stations (i.e. 8.1 or 40.1).

It sounds like you got a great deal! You have NBC, FOX, and PBS with vintage sitcoms to boot. I can't imagine what else you would need to watch, and if you want news/weather you can just head to the internet.
