The NWS seems to have backed off a good deal on the snow for Friday. Being a fast mover and a bit moisture starved, I think most of Connecticut will see only 2 to 4 inches, maybe even only 1 to 4 in the far western part of the state, from this storm. It will turn colder in the central/eastern USA later this weekend and into early next week, but it looks like it will moderate again after that to more seasonable temps. The warmth the past day has really melted alot of the snow down here at the coast...there is only about 4/5 inches left.

60 days till spring!

January 27th Storm

Forget the 24th storm which will only be 1-2 inches

January 27th looks promising.. Negative tilt on the trough..

So far:
GFS & JMA models are Out to sea
GGEM & ECMWF models have a big Coastal storm
UKMET has an Inland storm
DGEX has nothing

Bottom line...models are agreeing something is there for the 27th...except 1. lol

I had 19 total inches on ground 4 days ago and 27 inches where it had drifted... Today I have 8 inches and still 15 inch drifts.

So yes, dew points, temps and rain has made it vanish.. I kinda like that...Its like getting a clean canvas to paint a nice scenery all over again....a snow scenery.

The 27th is still 7/8 days away, so I guess the models will do the dance back and forth over the next week.

To me January 24th is actually a very interesting day annual in most places on the USA mainland (regardless of the weather); this is the date the daily mean temps start to rise. It seems that the solar angle needs about 30 days or so after the winter solstice to start heating the USA again. So at least that ball of fire in the sky is on our side now (lol).

Hallelujah!

Up here in Northern FFC, hardly any snow has melted....now it just has a thick layer of ice on it.

I was in the driveway after I got back from Florida right after the big snow. When I saw all the snow I said to myself that it will take till June (kidding of course) to get rid of all this snow. Yet, with just 40 hours of a flow from off the Atlantic the snow cover lost half or more of its depth. The power and influence of the Atlantic (or any ocean) on climate never ceases to amaze me. Its just raw power.

You must be happy with all the snow, but I think if this pace keeps up, you will grow tired of it by mid February. Who knows, it might be enough to turn you into a warm weather fan like me (maybe)

Yea, you guys up there always seem to be the last spot to warm in Connecticut. I think the highlands from northern FFC up to Litchfield play a big role. It’s funny, but years ago members of my family lived in Watertown. Several times I can remember leaving the coast near Saybrook and the ground was bare…by the time I hit the upper Valley north of Waterbury, there would be six inches of snow on the ground. North-central and west central Connecticut seems the most resistant to the ocean influence in Connecticut.

I may not be able to live in a real bannna belt (yet) but coastal southeast Connecticut is the best it gets in this state
