I agree with jayct. Danbury has an urban feel and is surrounded by rural and small towns, some of which are very pleasant and relatively affordable. Newtown is next to Danbury and has many conveniences of home/city. The commute from Stamford to Danbury is complicated- routes that are not direct and roads that are hard to drive in the snow (my husband commutes to Danbury long distance and often doesn't go to work when it snows because of the twisty roads between cities that won't be plowed). I don't think there is a train connection between Stamford and Danbury because they radiate in different directions from NYC. Both have good hospitals-Danbury's has been rated in the top 5%, is very regional and the system is pretty big because it is not close to other large hospitals. Stamford Hospital is a little smaller I think but also good. Both are affiliated with NYC universities. Ambiance of Danbury vs. Stamford is very different- IMO Danbury is comfortable, old city that has lots of long time residents and Stamford has been developing at a rapid pace, making it expensive and '"trendy". You can take day trips into NY from either but commuting for work is a long haul. Sorry, I don't know about temples (if I had to guess I'd say Stamford might be more likely to have one.)

I disagree that Danbury has an urban feel - It doesn't have a "city" metro center with large buildings - as a matter of fact I think the only tall building is the hospital. While it does have it's sketchy areas it also can be more suburban/rural in parts. I think that the feel you get for the size of the city can be misleading - Main street Danbury could be the main street of a much smaller town like Ansonia or Torrington. Stamford however feels more like a city.

Fully agree. Danbury has the population of a small city, but feels suburban. There are no tall buildings and very few walkable neighborhoods. Don't get me wrong, Danbury is a very nice and safe city, but I would never refer to it as urban.

Near downtown Bethel & New Milford, some homes have city water & sewer.
