If you are a REALTOR can you please tell me what food you serve at open houses? I've tried different things but people usually don't seem interested. At a brokers open what would you want to eat if you were stopping by to view the property? I like to serve things that are not too messy and don't require silverware, but sandwiches seem too cliche. Any suggestions?

A harvest board is a great idea. Take a big cutting board, load it with a couple of different types of cheeses, a couple of different meats (chorizo & pepperoni). You can also serve it with a sun-dried tomato dip. Dress it up with fruit like grapes or berries (whatever's in season). Bree is extremely easy to bake. you can always add fruit or nuts and honey in it when you bake it. Serve it with a basket of different types of crackers. You can always add alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

I guess wine and cheese with crackers are a big crowd pleaser with minimal mess. Do add Dijon mustard if possible.

I always like meatballs! You can always buy a big bag of them at Sam's if you don't want to make homemade. (I have tried other frozen ones, and I prefer Sam's by a huge margin - some of the others were virtually inedible!) Place the meatballs in a crockpot/chafing dish. Pour in a jar of chili sauce and a small jar of grape jelly. Stir and heat. Serve with toothpicks. This is really good and will look like you have worked really hard!

That's funny. Here in Scranton the favorite foods are whine and cheese.

All kidding aside I would try to keep things festive for different seasons. For example, if you're doing an October open house a small bowl of candy corn, a pumpkin pie, some maple syrup cookies, and other "Autumn"-like foods can really perk people up. For November think Thanksgiving---invest in a few chafing dishes and some sterno candles and tantalize guests with the sweet scents of turkey, mashed potatoes, and green beans. For December some awesome Christmas cookies, egg nog, hot cocoa, and candy canes (for the kids) would be a nice touch. For the summer time think along the lines of fresh fruit platters, especially including watermelon, pasta salad, potato salad, a cheese, cracker, and cold-cut platter, etc.

I agree- also tend to have autumn decorations around the house-inside and out. Autumnal dried flowers, in vases, or live flowers that represent the season; pumpkins outside and mums- it always add to the open house event.

At events like this, people tend to be more inclined to finger foods.
