Hi,

I'm moving to West Harford from Colorado and will be bringing my 60# lab mix with me. I'm looking to live in a safe area where I can walk my dog at night...since I work long hours and have grave yard shifts. Does anyone know of pet friendly apartments/condo/townhomes or housing close to a park/dog park?

Thanks!

You will not find a lot of large apartment complexes in West Hartford. It is mostly older single and 2 or 3 family homes with a few small apartment complexes mixed in. that said, I would suggest checking with craigslist.com for listings there. You might be able to find an apartment there that would allow that size dog. Jay

There aren't a whole lot of homes/condos for rent that allow pets...so it depends on what your comfort range for monthly rental is and how many bedrooms you are looking for. Without that info it would be difficult to determine if there is something available for your needs. You could also try apartments.com website for actual apartment buildings since I can only comment on homes/condos/multis.
Best of luck to you,
Michele P., Realtor

I agree with Jay. I live here and know the area well. Most of the apartments allow cats, some allow small dogs, but I think you'll have a hard time finding a complex that allows larger ones. If you can afford a duplex, consider this as an option. There are several of these throughout town, and I think this would be better suited for a larger dog. Both of you would have more space and a yard. Have you decided on a budget yet?

Just a heads up, be sure to pick up after him. I know this might sound like common sense, but not cleaning up after one's dog is really frowned upon around here, and the neighbors are a real stickler about this. So are the police.

These websites should help. On the first two you have the option to choose rental options. Take a look at these:

www.prudentialct.com

www.realtor.com

www.rent.com

www.apartments.com

If you have any questions about the neighborhoods feel free to ask. Most of the duplexes are in walkable neighborhoods and close to the main roads that have restaurants and shops (like FarmingtonAve, NewBritain Ave, Park Road).
