Hi everyone,

Where can I find more info on playgroups for a 15 month old boy? I am in Avon and my son does not go to daycare so I would like him to associate with more kids of his age. I tried the Parent Planner magazine but it seems most of the groups are on the opposite side of Hartford. I take him to the library in Simsbury for an activity for his age but so far I have not been able to find out more info on playgroups from other people. The playgroup does not have to be in Avon, it can be anywhere in the surrounding areas like West Hartford, Simsbury, Canton, Farmington.I have also tried taking him to Barnes and Noble when they have reading sessions.

If anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate your comments.
Thanks

Try meetup.com, put in 'playgroup' etc and your zip, you might find some there.

Call your church, pediatrician or local hospital. They will have resources for you or post a flyer in your peds office. Otherwise, grab a friend or two and start your own. Invite them over for coffee at your house. Kids don't have to be the same ages. I think playgroups are more for moms' socialization than for the kiddies!

Farmington Public Library near Farmington High School has a great playgroup. http://www.farmingtonlibraries.org/PDF/childmarchflyer2010.pdf (broken link)

They have alot going on, but we've only been to Tots and Tunes so far.

I have an almost 3 year old and a 14 month old girls. They both have a blast.

Enjoy!

You may want to check out if your town has a local moms group. Some do that get together for monthly playdates and outings. You can check your town government - they should have that info

You also might see if there is a Gymboree near you that has kids classes. I took my daughter when she was about that age and she had a blast.

Also don't just rely on your local library. A library card in Connecticut allows you to take books out in any town library and where I live at least people attend events in a number of libraries in the immediate area. Some are better than others with the children's programs they offer and some scedules may better suit your needs.

Finally - check out the offerings from your local park & rec. There should be a number of activities even for toddlers.

I belong to the Mother's Connection of the Farmington Valley for years and I think they might be exactly what you are looking for Mothers' Connection Of The Farmington Valley > Home ( DNN 3.1.1 )
A lot of great activities and great moms--very active organization. They have a lot of things planned for your neck of the woods and weekly play groups for various age groups.
