Was wondering which towns have the best public recreational facilities...in particular indoor/outdoor swimming pools, workout facilities, soccer/baseball fields? I'm particularly interested in what Ridgefield, Weston, and Westport have to offer. Thanks.

I am sure you will find Ridgefield and Westport very comparable. Weston uses Westport's facilities as it is primarily residential. All 3 high schools have indoor pools that residents are allowed to use.

Westport has Longshore which has pools, tennis courts, golf and a boat basin. Westport also has Compo Beach. I am not too familiar with Ridgefield, but it does have lakes for swimming.

Ridgefield and Westport both have a selection of gyms.

They all have fields for (soccer, baseball, etc) various town sport teams.

All 3 are beautiful places to live and raise a family.

It's a bit hard to compare town facilities as so many are closed to out-of-towners! How would we know what we're missing?

Hahahaha that is so true! But many of us have kids and teens that travel to many different towns for various sports!

Also, most towns offer their town facilities to out of towners for a price.

How bout starting with a description of those you do know. Like whether any of the towns have indoor and/or outdoor swimming pools, workout facilities, indoor basketball courts. Or do most people belong to private clubs to get their exercise?

We have some friends who live in Ridgefield, and LOVE their rec center, Ridgefield, CT Parks & Recreation - Welcome. They workout there, and their son goes to the preschool there.

In this area most people belong to their local YMCA. I've heard the Westport one is mediocre (in comparison to the New Canaan Y, which is crazy nice), but they have plans to redo the building.

We live in New Canaan. Although I'm not sure you are considering living here, our YMCA is great. There are 2 pools, both indoor. We also have a little lake here to go swimming in during the summer, and a playground next to the lake. Our baseball fields are part of Mead Park, which is like heaven on hearth. There is a playground there, too, tennis courts, a pond for geese, and a small cafe that makes the best sandwiches you will ever find in a public park. We also have Waveny Park. It is great for hiking, there is a dog park there, and the outdoor swimming pools are fantastic. But, we don't have the beach like Westport, and Ridgefield is much more affordable.
