What is wrong with Windsor schools? They are know worse than any other place, and you should here the stories I have heard about South Windsor High School. Actually, Windsor has pretty decent schools, and will be drastically cheaper than every other town in the area. It also does not have the same rich white vibe other towns have. Why don't all you people who bash Windsor actually live there and see what it is like?

Windsor High School performs well under the state average on the Connecticut Academic Performance Tests. Other schools in Windsor score around the state average on the Connecticut Mastery Tests. As for South Windsor, its schools perform above state averages. you can find more information on these schools at the links below. Jay

Default Free lunch for kids in wethersfield schools

My children will be attending wethersfield schools next year. I received snap (food stamps). do the school systems verify each child thru the state or they just look at the food stamps number. Thank you but i dont want my kids to feel less than and the hole main office to know the get free food.

To OP;
Have you considered other states, with cheaper cost of living? it's a challange to have a comfortable life on 2 salaries in CT. It's going to be tough being a single mom...

I am not sure about the answer to your question but I do know that the towns usually are pretty careful to keep people from knowing who is receiving assistance. Here in Glastonbury, kids have lunch accounts and no one knows which ones are getting free lunches and which ones pay through their account. Jay

still_in-Ct, I was wondering the same thing, and frankly, in this economy, the order one follows should be (1) get a confirmed job offer, (2) plan the move, including one-time expenses of relocating, (3) follow through with it. Avoiding doing step 1 first is like jumping from a plane with no parachute. One can safely assume as an unemployed, relocated new to any area citizen, one cannot secure the SAME level job or even something close to it, for an extended period of time. So one must ask themselves 3 questions (1) Given the new cost of living, how long will my savings carry me for?, (2) What percentage of my former income can I expect to obtain given the employment market I am moving to?, and (3) Can I survive LONG-term on that?

I understand why she wants to move, but often the most foolish moves come because while one is sure what they wish to run from, they haven't thought through if their next destiantion is truly the best place for them (every way-including financial) to run to.
