My grandfather often talks about travelling from Maine to visit his sister in East Hartford back in the 1950s. He tells me that he used to always stop at a "spaghetti house" off of route 86 (I'm thinking I84) just a few exits north of what would have been the exit for Pratt Whitney. Does anyone have a recollection of this "spaghetti house"? He is coming to visit this summer and I'd like to surprise him with a visit! Thanks!

I-84 north of what is now I-384 use to be I-86 but back in the 1950's this was not even called that. It was the Wilbur Cross Highway and I think it was Route 15. I have never heard of a place called the Spaghetti House but may someone else here does. Jay

How bout the spaghetti WAREhouse??? It's a chain, used to be one in Providence, now it's condos I believe.. it was neat. Had a trolley inside with a dozen or so tables, old fire engine hanging from the ceiling. Don't know about what you are refering to in Hartford though.

There is/was one in Springfield, off of I-91. Same chain as the one that was in Providence. The food was always good there. The Providence building is still there with condo's and businesses around it. This could be the restaurant, but my guess it is not because the Spaghetti Warehouse was not in existence in the 50's. The only "box" type restaurant chains back then was Valles' near Brainard Airport, but that is long gone and was a steak house.
