I was told that the downtown area of Hartford was suffering because alot of the insurance businesses were moving out of the area. There seems to be alot of renovations going on so I wonder just what the real deal is...

Skytrekker: I visited my daughter recently. She lives in Vernon, had a nice time.. got to the Wadsworth, ate a WONDERFUL sandwich at Reins..... was wondering tho, there seems to be a new development near the Vernon 24hr. diner (not sure the name of the road) it looks like a small planned community. Just drove by it and my daughter wasn't sure what is was.....

Hi Storm

that is a 'planned' townhouse/condo community age restricted (55 and up)
They are very nice homes- hardwood floors, decks, basements, garages etc. 2-3 bedrooms 2 baths
I believe they start in the upper 200,000s. Very attractive community in the last phase- centrally located.
I hoped you liked what Vernon has to offer. Next time in town try the 'Lotus' Restaurant- excellent French Indochinese food, and also 'The Aqua' great seafood and martini bar and voted best new restaurant in the state in 2005.

There is another smaller type community in town near I 84- no age restriction- semi attached single family homes Starting at 239K. And a single family group near by-New starting at 240K. There is another new townhouse group in town also- ranches and two levels- starting at 225K.

And Hartford is doing good- the Major Companies- Aetna, The Hartford, Hartford Steam Boiler and Travelers St. Paul are going nowhere. The downtown is looking better all the time.

thanks skytrekker, I'll put those on my list of places. I'll be back in Sept. for the wedding, hope I have some time to check more things out. Did get a feel for the area and how close or far away things are. It seemed fairly easy to get around. We did get caught in rush hour coming from the airport and trying to get to Wethersfield but my daughter used the car pool lane ( there were 4 of us in the car!) and we zipped on thru. Have to say Wethersfield is quite a pretty town, got to see the Victorian bed and breakfast being renovated.

Stormweary

I 91 can be tough- but nowhere worse then other metro areas.
The Hartford area does sprawl- from east to west, and to a lessor degree north to south. Wethersfield is an old town (1634) and Old Wethersfield is very charming. Vernon and to the east is really most pleasant- sedate, yet close to so much. September is very pleasant- have fun on your return.

I disagree. Im from CT and all I meet is rude, nasty people. I DO reflect friendly and nice and get treated like crap from these no good losers. Maybe if people weren't so fu==== jealous of us, including my family, because we have money it wouldn't be like this. By the way, most of the rude people I meet ALL the time are broke, mean, miserable, and bottom of the barrel LOSERS.
I am way to good for these people. I had to get rid of so many so called friends because of jealousy. They have nothing and never will.
Is there any high class people like me in CT that are decent? I haven't many any in the 50 years I've been here.

LOL, you sure do sound pleasant. And classy. It is shocking you are attracting so many rude, nasty people.

Between nep's endless threads and the trolls on the CT forum, it makes for some fun reading!

Gee, did you ever consider it is not them? Judging from this post you should. Either that or get away from where you currently live because it sounds like all the rude and nasty people in the state are there. I certainly don't have that where I am. Oh and by the way this thread is over 7 years old so the
Posters are
Long gone. Jay

way to stay classy.

agree with mels above - if all of these people have the same reaction to you, it's time to look in the mirror at the cause. I'm certainly not a poor person by any stretch, but I never get these sorts of reactions from people from all walks of life. Some of the friendliest and most helpful people I've ever met have been from NYC, Boston and the Hartford areas.

Oddly, even though I'm partly of Italian descent, I've found Romans to be pretty rude/inconsiderate when I've been in Italy (even though Italians have a reputation as being a friendly people), while the French I've met while in France always seemed to be extremely nice, friendly and helpful - even in Paris. This is despite the French reputation for being arrogant and condescending. Of course, these are personal experiences, so YMMV.
