I was hoping to get some suggestions on places to look in new haven county, as I know close to nothing about the area.

I am originally from s Windsor and my wife is from Norwalk, so we are much more familiar with places to live in those areas. We are currently in Texas, but may be relocating soon for a job that centers around new haven. More specifically, my territory would run from west haven to old Lyme along the shore, and up the 91 corridor to rocky hill.

Our priorities our school system first and things to do second. By things to do I mean I would love an area that was somewhat close by that was anything like west Hartford center.

Thanks!

I suggest Orange. It's well located and its a great town.

North Haven, North Branford, Wallingford?

Those would be centrally located to your routes.

North Haven and Wallingford, I personally would rule out if schools is the Number 1 Priority like you said.

I'm not sure about Branford....

I would agree with Orange and possibly look into Cheshire even though I'm sure it's a bit further north then you are looking for, it has great schools.

Northford, North Haven, Durham, Cheshire, the northern half of Hamden. Durham is mostly rural, but it's near side-routes to the shore (old Lyme) and it's near routes to 91N (to Hartford). It borders Northford, which borders North Haven, which borders Hamden, which borders Cheshire. So that's one really nice variety of "types" of areas all very close to each other, and equally close to highways in either direction.

So, other than Fairfield (and other $ towns in Fairfield County) are there no other towns south of Hartford (in the New Haven vicinity) that have an area that approximates West Hartford Center?

Nope, not really. West Hartford center doesn't mimic any other town in my opinion

Woodbridge is pricey, not much to do, but the homes are beautiful and the schools (Amity Regional) are reputed to be quite good. I know a number of families in Woodbridge and they have all enjoyed living there for 2 or three generations. If you can go in to New Haven, primarily, for your entertainment, I'd give Woodbridge my strongest recommendation. Bethany is quieter, more remote and a bit less expensive than Woodbridge.
