Hi All,

We're ready to make a move to Fairfield County and have narrowed our choices down to Ridgefield and Westport. We love both towns but are leaning more heavily towards Ridgefield (prior family connections, etc.) but are seriously daunted by the commute. Any information, perspectives, especially from those who actually make the commute would be greatly appreciated. We are only looking for houses either right in the heart of Ridgefield or just to the west of town to take advantage of the train out of Katonah so that the drive would be just under 20 minutes, but weretotally confused about parking options/lack thereof at the katonah train station. Also, we know there is a shuttle from the church...but how long does that really take? Does it make multiple stops on the way to and fro the station? Thanks in advance for your help.

well I can't really speak to the parking situation, however you also have the option of going to Golden's Bridge which has tons of parking as does Brewster. Katonah may be the closest station but it's also got the worst parking of all the close stations. My father commuted for years and years from Ridgefield (The South Salem/Ridgefield line) and it wasn't a problem for him at all. The key is not to commute far on the other side either. He was walking distance from Grand Central. Round trip, the whole thing probably took about 90 minutes from his house, to the train, to his workplace which was 10 blocks from GC if I recollect.

Just curious...what part of Ridgefield did your father commute from? We're focusing our search on Ridgefied center and parts west to make the commute easier.

My parents live literaly a mile from the South Salem NY border so they are wayyyy west in town. You just really want to be west of town due to traffic through the center of town too...it can be awful during rush hour.
