I'm helping a friend to ask this question. She currently owns a small condo in Farmington and her kids are going to school in a couple years. She and her husband love the school system in Farmington but recently saw a really nice house in Newington and are thinking about giving an offer. They will still keep the condo in Farmington, maybe rent it out if possible. The question is can their kids still go to Farmington school even though they will be living in Newington. They will still be paying the property tax for their farmington condo, and they might or might not rent it out (does this make a difference anyway?).
No, your children have to go to the town school or the town where you are a full time resident of. If you are renting OUT the home, the people who are renting it from them could send their kids though...

Thanks a lot for any help.
If your friend can provide proof of residency for the Farmington condo (which from what you write, she can), then yes, her kids can go to Farmington schools. Your friend is paying property taxes in Farmington and she would have to have her Farmington address on record at the school.
Renting the condo out would make a difference. It wouldn't be legit if someone else is claiming that address as their legal residence.
If the schools finds out that you aren't really living there and someone else is, it could end up in your kids being forced to leave the school, which has happened, as I know someone who tried to use a relatives address and had this happen.
In my opinion, its not worth it.
Use Newington schools, they are good.
No, you can only register your children where you live. If you get caught, you could be liable for tuition for all the years your children illegally attended, maybe even criminal charges. Besides, Newington schools are just as good, and you want your kids to attend school in their neighborhood and make friends in their neighborhood.
