Just trying to get some opinions on this restaurant... Specifically their cheeseburger. It was featured on The Best.. I Ever Ate (Cheese) on the Travel Channel (or one of the other similar channels).

Anyone have any experience with this place? I am a big foodhound, and even though this place was featured, something is telling me "BLECH!!!" I am in town a limited amount due to work travel, and don't want to waste a meal

What are your opinions if you have been?

Oh for crying out loud just go! lol

Blech is not correct. Overpriced and undersized? Yea for sure...but there is a line most times so they don't care.

Fried cheese on the burger is what makes the "deal".

Get the Bernice Platter.

John and Bernice were my neighbors before passing. Dairy farmers from start till end. Bernice told me the "cheese" thing was an accident. Go figure.

I love Shady Glen. It is definately the cheese and the fresh ground burger that works. I get the Platter and add the cole slaw to the burger and YUM!!!! If you are looking for, variety of burgers, and different toppings; other than your basic, catsup, mustard, relish, onion, mayo, & lettuce then you won't be satisfied.
Their Burgers are good old fashioned American style. Ice cream is Ok. Fries, onion rings fish sandwhiches etc are good too.

It would be a lot better if they used quality hamburger and had bigger portions. They have a line out the door everyday, so I doubt they care much.

It is worth trying one time if you live in Conn. They have a second location in the Manchester Parkade (in the back) that is hardly ever busy.

If you want a really good burger try Harry's Place in Colchester. I don't remember the address, but it's close to RT 85 I think.

Without a doubt the best simple burgers around. Don't expect some fancy thick hand packed gourmet yuppy burger, but think back to when Friendly's and the local burger joints used decent quality meat and cooked it simply on the grill without anything other than cheese and a bun. It is one of our favorite places to go for a burger. by the way, the cheese is great. If I am really in the mood to block a few more arteeries, I get an order of their fried cheese. It is excellent. Jay

Exactly how I feel. Frankly for me, not worth the drive. We go there about once a year or so, usually with friends. I prefer Harry's....
