Hello. Funny or not, about exactly one year ago I purchased a Kodak EasyShare C160 9.2MP Camera. I got it because the price I got it for was pretty good, and I figured, I'm no ace photographer and it should get the job done for a decent photo of whatever whenever for a compact camera.

Kodak EASYSHARE C160 9 MP Digital Camera (Silver)

At first, it seemed to be worked fine (of course, It worked fine the amount of time I could have returned it, tisk tisk). Over the months I started using it, I realized it was a mistake. For one, the lighting that makes the picture shotty over decent, blurry over visible even, is a pain in the ass the figure out (never had such a unexplainable defect on my other two cameras, one the most pathetic Vivtar piece of cheap junk from 2003 didn't have this issue, and two a Kodak EasyShare 3.1MP from '05 didn't have this issue) no matter indoors, outdoors, good or poor lighting or whatever mood, and due to other symptoms, and a quick test of my old EasyShare C300 from 2005 which had no issues, this camera is defected and 70 dollars were wasted.

Not a huge deal, but I would appreciate if anyone could tell me of a brand you prefer or have had good luck with. I'm looking primarily at Fujifilm and Nikon in that order, but open to suggestions and certainly a reason if you wish to suggest another Kodak. I am looking for something along the lines of no more than 100-150 (max) dollars of course less is much better. Juding my the specs of the camera above, you can understand roughly what I'm looking for.

I take some pictures of people, but generally places I go like Niagara falls, I went to a Botanical gardens in upstate NY, I went a zoo, and the good pictures came out excellent, same to this day, but basically all pictures expect for a russian roulette sorta probability come out like crap.

I appreciate your time and suggestions. Have a Happy New Year and such.

EDIT: Take a look at the 1-star reviews on the Google Shopping link at the top, a couple people seem to relate with the blurry and lighting issues to some extent.

EDIT: Those cameras come nowhere near my price range, did you bother to read my post?

Vanilla, here's my next camera: Canon PowerShot A1100 IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera (Blue) It's not new, came out in 2009, but it's had really good reviews.

For some reason most newer cameras in this price range do not have a viewfinder, but just the LED screen. I find that odd, and don't like it. So that's why I'll get me one of these before they're gone. They've actually gone up in price from about a year ago; I think it may be because of the viewfinder issue.

Was all set to get it from NewEgg, but then I was delayed by other circumstances and when I went back to get it, they were sold out.

My current camera is an ancient Kodak EasyShare C50 which is very limited: the internal memory seems to be only 12 pictures, which is lame. It does upload easily to my iMac, though, so I'm limpin' along with it for now.

YeeHaw! Just found it here: Digital Electronics 4 Less for less, but I'm not familiar with that company. Anyone?

Canon SD4000

Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : PowerShot SD4000 IS

This camera is really pushing it for compacts. It does not have a lot of manual options and mostly for folks that want auto and scene modes. No see-thru viewfinder... but most folks are okay with that.

There is also the Canon SD4500, which offers 10x zoom at the expense of some low-light performance.

Both use Canon's CMOS sensors as opposed to others that use CCD sensors. The SD4000 has a an extremely fast f-stops: f/2.0 (W) / f/5.3 (T)... This means it will perform extremely well in indoor/low-light situations... such as parties, dinners and stage plays.

Yes, you seem to be one of the only people who read my price range.

Anyways, I've found this Canon:
Canon PowerShot A3100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4X (Silver)

(Canon PowerShot A3100IS) And I'm liking it. Walmart has it in a bundle with a memory card not adding to the price for around 109$ and I enjoy their return policy, so I'll consider getting it there or of course possibly elsewhere.

I've considered the suggestions I've been receiving. Suggesting digital SLRs is contradicting my original price range. Also, Canon makes a nice product, some nice 300-400 dollars products, that, as Macrina quoted, is not part of my price range, know that. This is why you read posts

Okay, as for your suggestion, Macrina, about the older (from 2009) PowerShot, I don't think I'll go that route just for a viewfinder and I'm quite happy with the model I found from Canon and the price I can get it at now, so I'll finish up looking and decide for that deal goes up or I'll have to wait until deals pop up again. Do keep the posts coming while I look, I am checking back.

Thanks, Vanilla Having the viewfinder is an issue for me, as using it helps to hold the camera more steady. Having this conversation reminds me to
get with it, and buy that camera whilst it's still available!

Also, Newegg has the camera you want, with free shipping: Newegg.com - Canon PowerShot A3100 IS Silver 12.1 MP 2.7" 230K LCD 4X Optical Zoom Digital Camera

This seems to be essentially the same deal.....do you think? I've ordered from Newegg and they are a good company, in my opinion.
