Really?
FWIW, there were several attempts to "cartridge" reel to reel tape - somewhere in the garage I've still got an "stereo Pak" cartridge (the original "cassette") - shoulda kept the player.
Yeah, I vaguely remember that. The whole concept of cassettes was big back then. Remember the typewriters that had cassette typewriter ribbons? I remember being briefly fascinated with the original Sony Betamax cassette design. I wonder if cassettes played to the masculine, and the concept of being able to quickly put part "A" into slot "B" and get to the real enjoyment quickly.

While true, given proper equipment, an 8-track player trains kids to think that every album has 4 tracks and that some songs are naturally split in the middle.
When I realized that the LP of Boston's first album didn't split Hitch A Ride in half, I was in heaven!
Oh, yeah. and reverse is a myth on an 8-track. Ya gotta go around again...
I would love hearing a first press 8 track release of that album!!! (Probably sounds as good or maybe BETTER than my first press record of it (Orange Epic Label))

It might, tho time has passed. I will see if I can find it (and others) when I'm up at the parental mansion over Easter weekend. If I can find the tapes, I may get a player myself!
