Hi everyone.
I am looking for a simple to use navigation system for my
Car. I will be moving out of state in June & I think it's time.

My women friends recommend varmints for ease of use.

I would like a larger screen (vision reasons).
Read a couple of articles that said that new garmins
Don't come w/ cords.

Do you plug into lighter?

Where would you suggest buying? The radio shacks here
Don't have the best personnel (bought a few cell phones
@ 2 local stores).

Best buy ? Amazon?

Anyone suggest particular current models?

Would like to minimize cost, don't plan to hike w/it.

Thanks!

Garmin 50LM with lifetime updates. Has been on sale a few times as low as $89 and it plugs into lighter.

Things like that?

Default Checked amazon

While looking @ amazon noticed they sell mounts for GPS
& cords. They don't come with unit ?

What would I have to buy w/ the garmin?

Garmins come with a suction cup to mount the unit to the windshield. If you don't want to mount it there or if you live in a state that doesn't permit you to mount it there, you need to consider one of the other mounting options.

I love Garmin GPS systems. The one downside to the lifetime map updates which you can buy on amazon for around $89 dollars is that it is only good for that one specific unit. For example, I purchased the Garmin lifetime map updates in November and in February my Garmin unit, which I had had for about three years stopped working, So now the life map updates is no good since I can't transfer it to another Garmin unit. Maybe consider purchasing the lifetime map updates at the same time you get your Garmin, that way you will get your money's worth all around.

Something to think about:
There are simple GPS units and then there are fancy units that have a few extras built in.

First LMT, means Life time Map updates, and Traffic updates, all for free !!!
Keep in mind that NOTHING comes for FREE !!!
Somewhere you are paying for it or you paid for it *up front* !
Map-updates, because they are lifetime, can thus be used up to four (4) times a year. Traffic updates, are fine, but only IF and WHEN the area does have the service that transmits traffic data.
If the area you happen to be in, does not have it, Traffic updates is of no use.
Often, when there is a traffic jam, the GPS guides you through some really weird areas ...
Personally I do not trust Traffic updates.

The next thing you might like is Bluetooth Capabilty.
This is nice, because if your phone is bluetooth compatible, your phone essentially becomes a hands free unit.

Ours has one more goody, and that was why I bought it.
You can buy a dongle that plugs into the main data plug of your car (almost all modern cars have that plug), and then I can monitor what my engine does.

LBNL, because of your eyesight, go for at least a 5 inch screen size.

Now go shopping and do some price comparisons !!!
