Been all over the Internet and cannot find one that allows you to insert a battery for backup when there's a power outage. I mean they have all kinds of features, bells, and whistles that I just don't need but outages here are frequent when you add in the interruptions that last 5 seconds or less.

The old answering machine finally went belly-up after 25-30 yrs. of good service. Thanx.

You can get them with fancy features like caller ID that don't require batteries but you lose all those features during a power outage, basic functions of the phone still work. We had one with a batteries previously and it was a PITA, seemed the batteries were dead every time the power went out so we ended up leaving the batteries out and inserting them when we had a long power outage.

We also have a regular old dial phone in the basement as last resort, check Craigslist or you can buy simple phones that require no power.

$7 at Wal Mart... VTech CD1103WH Corded Phone - Walmart.com

One other thing to be aware of is if you have VOIP phone service from your cable company, the modem should have a battery backup but that only lasts a few hours.

Regarding the Casio, thanks.

As for the 1739, it was my understanding that it doesn't provide for a battery. I know for a fact that the AT&T 1740 has no provision for a battery.

I'm looking for an answering machine. The VTech cited above appears to be just a phone, unless I'm misreading something, which is quite possible.

You don't have voicemail for your phone? That's stored by the phone company and we'll get the voicemail regardless of what happens.

If you want one with answering machine I don't think you're going to find anything without a battery backup as I suggested.
